What Does Red Backpack Mean?

what does red backpack meanThe Red Backpack is a symbol. It represents the truth that you are already carrying everything that you need to live your unique life. You have everything you need to tell the story that only you can tell.

For me, it started with a trip to Holland and England as part of a team charged with teaching and investing in church leaders.

In order to pack light and stay as self-contained as possible, I borrowed my oldest daughter’s red backpack. Easy to use, easy to spot, it held everything I needed.

This European trip was also the beginning of what I knew was a major transition in life. During this season, a Red Backpack came to symbolize the new season that opened up in my family’s life and mine.

While we were determining if Tennessee was the place that God was moving us to, I had a dream about a red backpack. Back then, I was not a big “dream” guy. I didn’t really remember my dreams like I do now, so with this image so vivid, I had to assign some extra weight to it.

In the dream I was searching for my red backpack in the places that I had served before. As I searched through the buildings and the grounds, it became clear to me that my red backpack was no longer there. The dream was the definitive end of one season of life, and the indicator of a new one starting.

So when I began the Red Backpack in Tennessee, one of the first things that I did was write the words “The Red Backpack is here” on a post-it note and place that note at eye level over my desk. And I began to tell the story that only I can tell. That’s where the symbol of the Red Backpack originated.

Is it time to tell the story that only you can tell?

  1. I’ve read a few good stuff here. Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to create such a great informative website.
